WEAV3D

In WEAV(3)D, we invented an three-dimensional weaving process. With our process we are criticising the trend towards the an extensively digital approach in material exploration and tool usage. We are concerned about the potential impact of these digital processes in both the design field and throughout society at large. The trend contributes to a noticeable decline in designers' sensitivity towards hands-on engagement with materials and production processes. Simultaneously, consumers are experiencing a gradual loss of their understanding of how products are manufactured.

Within the production process, our machine braids threads into a
3-D lattice structure as opposed to interlacing them in the conventional planar way. This approach enabled us to fabricate a block made of braided yarn mesh. Afterwards, Bioplastic hardens the threads, resulting in a stiff material. The outcome is a lightweight and natural fibre-based material with potential applications as a structural material for diverse purposes.

REVEAL ME

“Reveal me” delves into the possibilities of printmaking. A plotter precisely etches a delicate graphic onto the paper and cuts the outer layers of the cup. As the paper absorbs liquid from the cup's inside, a hidden image on the cup's outside emerges. This approach provides a new perspective on how we can use the knowledge of printmaking in a modern-fabrication context.

This project is a study of material, graphic and experience.

Votex Materialization

The material study visualises the shaping force of different water currents. This means that the object itself is a materialisation of a natural force, the vortex. It confronts the balance between randomness and control.

The liquid wax solidifies in water. Since the object mirrors changes in the vortex it can be controlled to a certain degree by adjusting the temperature, quantity or turning speed. Thereby the designer becomes a co-creator in the process with a natural force, which always inhabits an element of unpredictability
